Endodontic treatment
Endodontic or Root Canal Treatment is required when a tooth is very badly decayed or damaged. That’s because the blood or nerve supply of a damaged tooth can very easily become infected. Not surprisingly, an infection can be very painful and even result in an abscess. Regular dental check ups and careful brushing and flossing can help to prevent you needing an endodontic treatment but if you require one, we’ll talk you through your options and make sure you understand what your treatment involves.

Pain relief
Root canal treatment provides significant pain relief by removing infected pulp and sealing the tooth's root canals.

Root canal treatment saves the tooth by removing the infected pulp and restoring its health and functionality.

Improved oral health
Root canal treatment improves oral health by eliminating infection and preserving the natural tooth structure, preventing the need for extraction.

Long lasting results
Root canal treatment provides long-lasting results by effectively addressing the root cause of tooth problems and promoting the tooth's longevity and function.

Enhanced comfort
Sedation will help you relax, alleviating any anxiety or apprehension associated with dental treatments. Sedation can help you feel more comfortable during dental procedures by reducing discomfort and stress associated with certain procedures.

Reduced Anxiety
During sedation you may also be given a local anaesthetic, which will normally be administered while you are under sedation. If you’re anxious or fearful about dental visits, sedation can make your experience more comfortable and less stressful.

Minimised
gag reflex
If you have a severe gag reflex, sedation can help suppress it, enabling our team to perform procedures more comfortably and with better precision.

Tailored treatment plans
Our dentists and practice team will work closely with you to develop a customised treatment plan that aligns with your individual requirements.
Long lasting Successful Results
Treatment
We’ll begin by removing any sign of infection from the damaged tooth, before cleaning it thoroughly and filling your tooth to prevent further damage. We’ll match your filling to the colour of your existing teeth too and aim to restore the damaged tooth to its original shape, so the filled teeth will blend in beautifully with your smile.

Treatment Process

Step 1
Local anaesthesia is first administered to numb the affected area before starting the treatment. The tooth will then be sealed off with a rubber dam by the dentist in order to keep it dry and saliva-free.

Step 2
To access the pulp chamber and root canals, the dentist will then make an incision in the top of the tooth. The infected or damaged tissue from the pulp chamber and root canals will be removed using small tools like files and broaches.

Step 3
The dentist will shape the inside of the tooth to prepare it for filling once the infected or damaged tissue has been removed. They will next seal the opening on the top of the tooth with a temporary filling and fill the root canals with a filling substance, such as gutta-percha.

FActs & Questions
A root canal isn’t anymore unpleasant than a routine dental operation like getting a filling or extraction because patients are given local anaesthesia. A root canal, however, typically leaves the tooth a little uncomfortable or numb following the treatment and may even cause some minor discomfort for a few days.
The number of appointments needed for root canal therapy will depend on the severity of the infection in your tooth. A root canal typically takes 30 to 60 minutes to perform. A bigger tooth with many roots may require up to an hour and a half of treatment time.
Fortunately, the big bad root canal is mostly a myth. The procedure is performed with a local anaesthetic and isn’t any more painful than getting a filling. While some anxiety is normal, these procedures shouldn’t be feared.
